What are we learning?
We're working on our Fiction and Nonfiction skills. Students will take their 2nd Fiction/Nonfiction test this week and practice using a proof page. We are slowly getting ready for our Reading SOL so be looking for practice Reading passages to come home that we've done.
We are starting our Data and Probability unit. Students will be learning about different types of graphs and probability. We will be making and reading graphs for a few weeks. We will also be remediating our Multiplication and Division unit during Core Extension. Ask your child about Core Extension!
Science and History:
We're finishing up our Matter and Water unit and will be testing this week. Our next unit is Economics. Students will be reviewing types of resources, services, and needs and wants. They will also be learning about specialization, opportunity cost, and ways to save money!
We will be working on our Opinion Writings. Students are asked to choose a topic they feel strongly about and write a persuasive writing about their topic. We have been working on this for a week and they are doing great! We will write our final copy this week and next.
We are starting the 3rd quarter! Can you believe it? The students will have their Fractions Math Test on Friday, 2/12 as well as their Valentine's Day celebration. Feel free to send in cards and treats for all 22 students in the class. Report cards will be coming home next week! As always, please go over them with your child. Remember that Monday 2/15 is a holiday so students will NOT HAVE SCHOOL. Please email me at any time with questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
EAGLE Students of the Month
Every month, 2 or 3 students will be selected as one of the Students of the Month! Every student will have a chance to be picked, and choices will be made by Mrs. Sherman. They will have a picture taken with me which will be hung outside the classroom, and will receive a postcard in the mail from me as well.

Book it! Reading Program
Your child will receive a NEW packet for the Pizza Hut Book it! Program. Included in the packet is a February calendar and 2 reading response forms. Students should be reading for 20 minutes each night and filling in their Reading Log. They may then color in the box on their monthly Book it! Calendar as well. Students MUST complete 2 reading response sheets for the month of February, and read at least 23 days out of the month to receive their free Personal Pan Pizza Coupon. Reading response forms are due (COMPLETED AND NEAT!) at the end of November. Students who read for the entire 6 months of the program (October - March) will receive a special prize from me!
